Sibling Rivalry Brother MFC 9770CDW Vs. MFC 9460CDN

The Brother MFC 9770CDW and the Brother MFC 9460CDN.

What are the differences between these two all in one, color, laser printers? You’re about to find out. >

Essentially, these printers are basically the same. Both are all in one printers designed for an office environment. Both are made by Brother, but that’s obvious. Both scan, print, fax, and copy. Both have an auto duplexing feature.

Question: What is auto duplexing?

Let’s say that you have a report to print out, and for this report, you have to print on both sides of a piece of paper-the front and the back. This is called duplexing. Well, some printers won’t let you do this. Others allow you to do it, but what happens is that the printer will first print all the things on the front, then you have to flip all the papers over, and then the printer will do all the printing on the back side-in order of course. However, both the Brother MFC 9970CDW and the Brother MFC 99460CDN automatically duplex; that is, they print on the front and the back or the paper automatically, without you having to touch the paper. This saves you time, and also prevents errors. During manual duplexing, when you are rotating the papers, what if you drop them and they go out of order? Got it? Good. Moving on.

Some more similarities

Both Brother printers have outstanding output. The finished products for both printers are really professionally done. A fair criticism many people have is that in both printers, the color printing is not amazing, especially for photos. I find this true and it is kind of a fair criticism; however, this printer is an all in one printer, not specifically a photo printer.

Crucial Differences

So as you can see, the printers are similar in a lot of respects. To my understanding, the 9970CDW is wireless but the 9460CDN is not. I know for both you can download a free iPhone app called Brother iPrint&Scan which can help you with wireless printing. I think you can actually install the 9460CDN on a wireless network via ethernet, if that makes sense. Both allow you to cut down costs by purchasing high yield toner cartridges.

The 9460DCN is cheaper. It is not as fast. Whereas it’s -better brother- (…get it?) prints at 30 pages per minute, the cheaper 9460 prints at 25 pages per minute. The 9970 also has a really intuitive color touch screen that I find really intuitive and frankly awesome to use. It is smaller and a little lighter also.

And the Winner is-

In the battle of Brother MFC 9970CDW vs MFC 9460CDN, I think you can’t go wrong with either. They are both great quality all in one printers. While the 9970 is about $100 more expensive than its lighter counterpart, it prints 5 pages faster per minute, has a better wireless capability, and is easier to use with its fancy 5 inch touch screen. I think shelling out the extra money is worth it for me personally, but it all depends on what you are looking for. If this statistic helps you at all, the 9970CDW is ranked number 5 in sales from Amazon for laser all in one printers, while the MFC 9460CDN is ranked 36th. I think those numbers speak for themselves.
